Development of autonomous vehicle technology is happening everywhere, but not as quickly as the hype would suggest.

“The implications of this change are incredible,” says K. Charles Janac, president and CEO of Arteris. “You can imagine a world where there are no stoplights and cars communicate with each other, cities are eco-fenced, and you can only take self-driving taxis. If you’re a legacy car company, your dealers have gotten all their money from maintenance, your assembly people are skilled in mechanical assembly, and your purchasing people have long-term relationships that now have to be fractured.”
